SIMPLE 2.0

IBM research has developed an Intellectual Property analytical platform, SIMPLE 2.0, that can mine and analyze high-value curated content in the technical and professional literature represented by collections such as PubMed and patents to support IP operations and research and development.

SIMPLE 2.0 is an advanced analytics platform for IP and healthcare and life sciences that addresses three major technical challenges. First, a solution requires management of the information itself. Processing, cleansing, normalizing, validating and storing the information in a manner that it is ready and accessible for downstream analysis is a critical enabling step. Second, the tool applies interactive and batch analytical techniques to the structured and unstructured information to derive additional value added attributes, values and relationships. These techniques consist of technologies such as unsupervised learning or clustering algorithms, classification, entity extraction and annotation algorithms. Third, it requires transformation of the information into a human interactive and consumable form. This generally consists of creating various indices that allow quick searching, summarization, aggregation, correlation, analysis and visualization. The key capabilities are listed below:

  • Chemical and biological entity extraction
  • Chemical similarity search and indexing
  • Full-text search and indexing
  • Chemical and biological entity relationship analysis
  • Portfolio analysis, taxonomies, Pattern detection using multi-dimensional affinity analysis
  • Network analysis and visualization
