Hi, there!  I am a computer science researcher at IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California.

Brief Biography

I was born and grew up in Guangzhou, which is one of the biggest cities in southern China.  From 1994 to 2000, I attended Guangya Middle School, which was founded in 1888 and is one of the oldest middle schools in the country.  After that, I attended University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and received a Bachelor's degree in computer science in July 2004.  I did my graduate study in computer science at Purdue University, where I was also affiliated with the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS).  My advisor was Prof. Ninghui Li. I was a recipient of the Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship for academic year 2008-2009, and I also received the 2009 CERIAS Diamond Award for Academic Excellence. I got my Ph.D. degree in May 2009 and joined IBM in September 2009.

Research Interests

I am interested in analytics and information security in general, and the following topics in particular:

1.       Data mining, machine learning, and information retrieval

2.       Social computing and collaborative applications

3.       Access control modeling and policy management

4.       User privacy preservation, especially in enterprise and healthcare

Personal Interests

I love traveling and watching movies.  When I have extra time to kill, I play PC games.  I am a big fan of Diablo 2 and have a huge collection of exceptional items.  Heroes of Might & Magic and Civilization are also my favorites.  I occasionally play real-time strategy games like Warcraft and Age of Empire series.  My favorite sports are tennis, basketball and swimming.
