Directions

By car from I-80: Take the University Ave exit. Continue east on University Ave for 1.5 miles to Oxford St. Take a left on Oxford St. Take a second stoplight right on Hearst Ave. Follow Hearst Ave along the North Side of Campus.

To access the Lower Hearst Garage (see map), take a left on Le Conte Ave, then the first right on Scenic Ave. (Note that there is no left turn from Hearst onto Scenic.) The entrance to the garage will be on your left. Soda Hall is a short walk up Hearst from the garage.

To reach Soda Hall, keep going along Hearst Ave past the intersection with Euclid Ave. Soda Hall is a large green building on your left, before the next intersection (LeRoy Ave). Entering from Hearst, you are on Level 3 which is the correct level for Room 306.

By BART: The Downtown Berkeley BART station is at the corner of Center St and Shattuck Ave. Follow Center St East for one block and take a left on Oxford St. Take a right on Hearst Ave and follow Hearst Ave along the North Side of Campus. After the intersection with Euclid Ave, Soda Hall will be on your left: a large green building before the next intersection (LeRoy Ave). Entering from Hearst, you are on Level 3 which is the correct level for Room 306. The walking time is approximately 10-15 minutes.

Parking

For non-Berkeley attendees, a limited number of parking permits are available for the UC Lower Hearst Garage, on Hearst Avenue at Scenic (see map). Note that you may only park in areas designated for "C" permits: these are mainly on levels 4 and 2. You may obtain a permit in advance from Dan Boneh (Stanford), Ravi Kumar (IBM Almaden) or Steve Chien (Microsoft). If you do not obtain a permit in advance, a very limited number will be available for pick-up on a first-come first-served basis from the parking booth at the UC Campus West Gate: you will need to say that you are attending BATS in the Computer Science Department; the attendant will give you a permit which you can use in the Lower Hearst Garage.

If you are unable to obtain a permit (or find a space), there is public parking on Level 2 of the Lower Hearst Garage for $15 per day ($1, $5 bills only), and parking is also available at the same cost at the city garage on Center Street (see map).
