SmartDocs is designed to improve efficiencies in document-based business processes by automating the creation of self-managing documents. The SmartDocs gateway accepts content from multiple sources such as scanned paper, print stream and electronic data; classifies the information; extracts metadata; executes customized application profiles and triggers business logic. The scanned input is supported by a multi-function device (MFD) that provides scan, copy, fax and print functionality.

Key features include:

• automatic creation and extraction of metadata associated with incoming documents
• automatic contextual classification of incoming documents, dynamic association with the relevant schema and business process and uploading into the content management system and other external systems
• definition of interfaces to the external systems and credentials necessary for execution of a specific instance of a business process configuration file
