Industrial Design Sampler
IntroductionThe USER group at IBM Almaden is involved with many aspects of industrial design for IBM products, particularly with the ThinkPad line of notebook computers.
Wrist RestWrist rests have become common to keep the operator's hands in a comfortable position. We have designed a series of snap-on wrist rests that attach to keyboards to produce a stabilizing rest. Unlike conventional wrist rests, these move with the keyboard and even function well in your lap.Universal PlugAnyone who travels internationally knows the headache of having the wrong kind of plug to fit into the wall. We have developed a Universal Plug which fits into many different outlets by automatically retracting unused tongs.
Flexible TransformerPower supplies continue to shrink to make portable computing easier. We have developed a power supply transformer which is actually distributed along the length of the power cord. This transformer spreads its weight and heat and requires little additional bulk. It also maintains a low power factor. |
