Live Internet Broadcast As in past years, New Paradigms for Using
Computers 1999 will be available for all to see via Internet broadcast.
We will be using the RealVideo streaming format. If you already
have RealPlayer installed and configured, use one of
the two links below to
view the conference: To test your
connection before we start the broadcast, use this link: All the conference participants, including the video broadcast watchers, are encouraged to participate by telephoning in with their questions or comments. Please call +1 (408) 927-3300 during the conference to share your comments live with the speakers and participants. If you have technical questions about how to connect to the video server, please call +1 (408) 927-1007. To view the conference, please use the free RealPlayer G2, available from Real Networks. If
you are having problems receiving the broadcast, please set your
connection to non-multicast UDP with TCP fallback. In the realPlayer,
choose Options | Preferences | Transport, and ensure that both TCP
and UDP are checked under "PNA Settings..." If
you are having problems getting your browser to start the RealPlayer,
you can start RealPlayer by hand and enter the following text
under "Open Location..." in the RealPlayer (this is
NOT a link for your browser, only for the
RealPlayer): IBM intranet viewers and others behind a SOCKS firewall may view the Internet feed with a "Socksified" TCP stack. (This is recommended only for advanced users.) Hummingbird offers a free Socksified stack for Windows-based machines.
If you
are coming from behind a Socks firewall, you will also need to change the transport
settings for the RealPlayer. Under
Options | Preferences, select
the "Transport" tab. Click "Use specified transports."
Then click the "PNA Settings..." button. Ensure
that "Use TCP to Connect" is selected, and that only
"Attempt to use TCP for all content" is checked. We would like to extend our thanks to Myron Flickner and Xiaoming Zhu for their assistance and for their loan of equipment. USER Home | CS Home | Almaden Home | IBM Research | Legal | Feedback |
