Biography
Irving Wladawsky-Berger has responsibility for key IBM initiatives critical
to the future of the IT industry. In that capacity, he is responsible for IBMs
companywide e-business on demand initiative. In conjunction with this, he leads
IBMs participation in the movement toward open standards and open source
software, like Linux, and the company's Next Generation Internet efforts. He is
also closely involved with IBMs Grid and Autonomic Computing efforts, which
are crucial to on demand. Having begun his IBM career in 1970 at the companys
Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Wladawsky-Berger went on to manage a number
of IBMs businesses. He sits on the boards of a number of academic and business
institutions, and has been extremely active in helping shape public policy on
information technology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
A native of Cuba, he was named the 2001 Hispanic Engineer of the Year.
