Perspectives on European Privacy Policies and Legislations: Implications
for Data Systems |
Abstract:
The talk concentrates on the European view on privacy, taking into account
both legislation (mainly the European Data Protection Directive) and European
privacy policies. Implications for data systems are derived. A main focus
is on Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PET) and their backing by European
and national legislation. Initiatives like P3P in the European context or
the work on privacy and identity management are mentioned. Privacy seals
might play an important role in Europe and push the development and use
of PET. Their current state, their scope, their goals and their legal foundation
are described. An outlook on future prospects concludes the talk. |
