Biography
Dr. Robin Williams is the Associate Lab Director of the IBM Almaden Research
Center. Previously he was a Senior Manager at the Center where he managed the
Content Management department that focused on Content Management Systems (multimedia
digital libraries, rights management and the long term preservation of digital
data), Copy Protection (for distributing content securely), Data Compression,
and Secure Workstations (private virtual networks).
Williams has published many papers and patents, given numerous presentations
and held key positions in conferences, including general chairperson of IEEE
COMPCON 96, program chair of COMPCON 95, co-chair of the IEEE/ACM 2nd Conference
on Computer Workstations 1988, program co-chair of IEEE 1st Conference on Computer
Workstations 1985 and chair of ACM SIGMOD in 1983. He was chairperson of the
ACM SIGGRAPH professional society (1975-1977).
Williams is a Fellow of the IEEE and also a Fellow of the ACM. He earned his
Ph.D. at New York University (CS/EE).
