Biography
Brian Hughes is an Engineer/Scientist at IBM's Almaden Research Center. His current projects involve the development of advanced magnetic tunnel junction materials and device for Magnetic Random Access Memory (MRAM). He is also involved in the processing and integration elements of the Racetrack memory project. Currently he is developing his skills in processing work; including etch, lithography, circuit design and testing. He is also responsible for equipment maintenance and user training for many of the laboratory systems including an automated sputter deposition system with in-situ shadow masking developed at Almaden several years ago, the A-system, a DMS vibrating sample magnetometer, a Magnetic Solutions High Field Anneal furnace and a Quantum Magnetics PPMS cryogenic system and various automated multi-wafer testers, developed and built at Almaden.

A native of the United Kingdom, Brian earned his Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering at the Glasgow Caledonian University. Since 1986, he has worked for Digital Equipment on circuit design and testing, Motorola as a semiconductor reliability engineer and Infineon Technologies as an MRAM reliability and materials engineer before joining IBM in 2004.
