Biography
Andreas Ney was a post-doctoral scientist in SpinAps for about 1.5 years from October 2003 until May 2005. During this time Andreas investigated the fabrication and properties of dilute magnetic semiconductors based on thin films of MBE grown Cr doped Indium Nitride.

A native of Bad Homburg, Germany, Dr. Ney was educated at the Free University Berlin (Diploma thesis 1998, Ph.D. 2001. He subsequently spent two years as a post-doc at the Paul-Drude Institute in Berlin under its Director, Prof. Ploog. His research during this period included the use of synchrotron based characterization techniques and SQUID magnetometry to study the magnetic properties of 3d transition metal films; scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) on silicon; magnetic and structural measurements on MnAs/GaAs(001); and studies of new magneto-logic devices.

His diploma thesis earned him the Student Award of the Dr. Wilhelm and Else Hereaus Foundation. He also was awarded a Feodor-Lynen post-doctoral fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which partially funded his stay at Stanford and Almaden. Since Dr. Ney returned to Germany in May 2005, he heads a EU-financed Marie Curie Excellence Team in Duisburg where he is investigating dilute magnetic semiconductors based on GaN and ZnO and related heterostructures.
