Biography
Mahesh Samant received the B. Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India in 1981, and the Ph.D. degree from Stanford University in 1986, both in Chemical Engineering. He has worked on the structural characterization of bimetallic catalysts, the characterization of the electrode/electrolyte interface using structural and spectroscopic techniques, the invention and development of non-contact methods for liquid crystal alignment in flat panel displays, and the characterization of magnetic thin films using X-ray magnetic circular dichroism. Currently Dr. Samant is a Scientist working on spintronic materials and devices in the Magnetoelectronics group at IBM Almaden. Mahesh is responsible for overseeing the design and construction of the PLD-TEON multi-chamber deposition system in Stuart Parkin's laboratory.
