Biography
Cheng-Han Yang is a Ph.D. graduate student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University. He is carrying out his research for his Ph.D. at the IBM Almaden Research Center. He has studied the sputter deposition and magnetic properties of materials with very low magnetic anisotropy for application in magnetic tunnel junction devices (MTJs). His current research is focused on the growth and characterization of thin film nitrides and oxides for spintronic materials and devices. He is carrying out this work on one of the thermal evaporation chambers in the PLD-TEON deposition system, which is currently under development at Almaden. In particular, Cheng-Han is studying the properties of thermally evaporated magnesium oxide films and the controlled incorporation of defects into these films.

A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Cheng-Han received his Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering from National Tsing Hua University in 2001 and earned his Master's degree in 2003.
