Biography
Shoucheng Zhang, a Professor of Physics at Stanford University, is internationally recognized for his research in spintronics, advanced materials and high-temperature superconductivity. Last year he co-discovered a new law governing the spin transport in semiconductors that could be the basis for a new generation of low-power, spin-based computing devices. Zhang and colleagues showed that unlike the Ohm’s law of classical electronics, a spin current in semiconductors can be induced by an electric field and flow at room temperature without dissipation.
