Biography
Theo Frot grew up in a family of scientists. From his most tender age he was in contact with people passionate about science, who developed in him a desire to learn and pursue innovation for the greater good of mankind. After initially studying mathematics, Theo switched to chemistry. He obtained his B.S. in Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique (Paris) and his M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Imperial College (London) in 2006. His M.Sc. dissertation was on the development of core-shell silica-gold nanoparticles and the tuning of their plasmon resonance in the infrared spectrum. He then joined the group of Dr. Clement Sanchez at the University of Paris VI, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2009 for his work on hybrid titanium oxo-clusters and their assembly into crystalline metal-organic frameworks (aka MOFs).
Dr. Frot then joined the IBM Almaden Research Center in 2009 as an IBM postdoc in the Dielectrics Materials team under the supervision of Robert Miller and then Geraud Dubois. His work is focused on the development of novel porous low-k materials based on organosilicate precursors and new strategies to minimize the plasma damage suffered by highly porous dielectric films during back-end-of-line (BEOL) integration.
