This National Science Foundation /Department of Defense funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program, SUMMIT, involves
research in the general area of chemistry and engineering of information technology related materials in partnership with San Jose State University.
Stipends are available for a 10 week (teachers 8 week) summer program of research under the mentorship of scientists at Almaden and/or SJSU.
Included is a special seminar series, career discussions, and a concluding poster scientific meeting. Projects and the program are designed for
undergraduates with majors in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and related sciences.
SUMMIT (Summer in Materials for Information Technology) Program Details:
- Duration: 10 (teachers 8)consecutive weeks.
- Stipend: Students $4500 for 10 weeks. Free housing in SJSU dormitories and limited travel
reimbursement is available to non-local participants.
- Eligibility: Undergraduate standing, at least one year of science and engineering coursework
completed. Requirements vary
by project. Preference is given to chemistry, chemical engineering,
and materials science majors, though outstanding candidates from
related majors are invited to apply. Applications are especially
encouraged from students at primarily undergraduate institutions and
from students who are members of groups underrepresented in science
and technology. Participants must be citizens or permanent legal
residents of the US.
