The Almaden Tape Laboratory is a newly-formed center of competence within the Almaden Research Center, directed toward developing advanced tape technology and sophisticated measurement tools for evaluating the viability and promise of future media. These tools form the basis for IBM's internal mission to extend tape capacity by two orders of magnitude within the next decade. However, IBM also recognizes the need to make available a subset of these tools to our future media vendors to provide technical guidance on media development.
