Flash Enabled Architecture (FLEA)

Project Description

Flash memory has begun to impact storage system design with the introduction of enterprise-class SSDs over the past two years. However, replacing HDDs with SSDs using the same storage system architecture will not deliver all the benefits that Flash is capable of providing. The Flash Enabled Architecture project is exploring new storage architectures that integrate Flash more deeply into the storage hierarchy to extract its maximum value. Some of the areas we are working on are new flash devices, flash reliability, caching algorithms, and flash management.
