• Greenville High School diploma 1968.
• B.S. Chemistry, The University of Texas at Austin, June 1972.
• Ph.D. Chemistry, Harvard University, November 1977. Thesis title: The Study of Cell Surface Charge by Electrophoretic Light Scattering.
• Sept. 1977 -- Sept. 1979: Postdoctoral Fellow, Stanford University Chemistry Dept. (National Science Foundation fellow, 1978-79) Developed and applied fluorescence techniques for the measurement of diffusion in biological membranes.

• 1979 -- Joined IBM Research, Polymer Science department, San Jose, CA.
• 1983 -- 1984: Manager of Polymers for Logic and Memory Applications.
• 1984 -- 1989: Manager of Polymer Characterization Department.
• 1989 -- 1990: Research Staff Member, Polymer Physics.
• 1990 -- 1993: Research Staff Member, Organic Optoelectronics
• 1993 -- present: Research Staff Member, Ease of Use (Computer Science).
• 1997 -- present:  Manager, Human Interface Research

IBM Honors:

• 1984 and 1985: IBM Corporate awards for the invention and development of spectroscopic methods for the quantitative analysis of ultra thin lubricant films on magnetic disks.
• 1989: IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for polymer diffusion studies.
• 1994: IBM Research Division Technical Group Award for contributions to the TrackPoint III Pointing Device.
• 1997: IBM Research Division Technical Group Award for contributions to TrackPoint IV.
• 1997: IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for Development of ScrollPoint Mouse Technology.
• 2001: Fourth Plateau Invention Achievement Award.

I am Emergency Coordinator for ARES in the City of Campbell, CA, with responsibility for liaison with public service agencies and city officials. I hold the Advanced Class Amateur Radio License N6HDN. ARES is sponsored by the American Radio Relay League .

I am Troop Committee Chairman for  BSA troop 330 in Campbell, CA. I have completed my Ticket for Wood Badge.
